Religion and Philosophy for $200 Bob

By Lance Winslow

Religion can be an interesting subject, as it seems to dominate many people's lives and permeates all aspects of society and since you enjoy philosophy. I suppose you have seen its incredible influence over the past 2000 years on Western World "Thought" and Academic Philosophy.

One has to wonder if anyone has anything new to mention, as I have been over it all 100s of times and am no longer intrigued, just observe the masses and their religion and watch its influence. Freedom of Religion is something that we all signed onto in a social contract with our civilization and thus it is to be tolerated, yet those who do not partake of the Santa Clause motif are to be duly tolerated as well.

Enough has been said about the subject to fill ten libraries of Congress on the subject. Have you ever stopped to think how much mankind might have achieved in the last 2000 years if he had merely taken responsibility for being his own god? Taken responsibility for he own achievements, failures and challenges? We could agree no matter what side of the fence you currently sit on in the religious debate that the world would be so much different today.

Some say religion is a crutch and for some they might be right. Some say religion is a means of control and indeed many a man has been controlled by religion. Thus I ask, what if religion no longer existed, what might mankind achieve then and if it had not been present in the last couple of thousand years, where would we be today?
